Kyle is one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas, and thousands of its lawns started the same way: a thin layer of builder sod rolled out over scraped clay. Keeping that grass alive takes water, and water is the one thing Kyle can't promise. In recent drought years, the city's watering restrictions have cut sprinklers to one day a week, and at the tightest stage to once every other week, with new sod installations put on hold.
Artificial grass takes water out of the equation. It doesn't need sprinklers, a mower, fertilizer, or weed treatments, and it looks the same in a dry August as it does after a wet spring. Rain runs through it and into the base below, so there's no standing water and no mud by the back door.
Kyle Turf Pros takes care of the full job: removing the old lawn, building and compacting the base, fitting the turf, and finishing the edges. Most of the labor goes into the base, because the base decides whether a turf lawn still lies flat and drains well years from now. You may know the product as synthetic grass, fake grass, or astro turf. Today's versions are softer, more varied in color, and much harder to tell from the real thing.

Turf made for dogs. It drains wherever they go, rinses off with a hose, and stands up to zoomies, digging, and fence patrol without turning to dirt.

Hard-wearing turf for apartment communities, HOA amenity centers, retail frontage, patios, and play areas. Cut the irrigation and mowing costs and keep the grounds green.
See Commercial TurfStep 1
We visit the property, measure the area, check the slope and drainage, and talk through how the space gets used. You get to see and feel turf samples, and you leave with a written quote.
Step 2
We strip out the grass and topsoil, shape the grade, and compact a layer of crushed rock that drains. This step determines how the lawn holds up.
Step 3
Turf is rolled out, cut to fit every edge and curve, seamed so the joins vanish, and secured around the perimeter.
Step 4
We spread infill, power-brush the blades upright, and haul off the debris. You can walk on the lawn as soon as we leave.

| New sod | Artificial turf | |
|---|---|---|
| Getting established | Needs daily watering for weeks, which drought stages may not allow | Usable the same day |
| Ongoing water | Sprinklers on every allowed watering day from spring to fall | A quick rinse when you want one |
| Mowing and trimming | Every week in the growing season | Never |
| Fertilizer and weeds | Multiple treatments each year | None needed |
| August | Brown, thin, or dormant under watering limits | As green as the day it went in |
| After a storm | Muddy for days on clay soil | Drains and is ready to use |
| Dogs, kids, and shade | Bare spots and worn paths | Even coverage everywhere |
Sod is cheaper on day one. After that, it keeps billing you for water, mowing, and repairs, and it can still go brown when the city tightens restrictions. Turf is a bigger one-time cost that removes most of those expenses.
Most of Kyle sits on blackland prairie clay. It's dark, dense, and sticky. It swells when it rains, and it shrinks and cracks when it dries. That movement is hard on foundations, and it's the reason so many new-build lawns go lumpy and thin within a couple of years. Head west toward Mountain City and Wimberley, and the ground changes to shallow, rocky soil over limestone, often with a slope and a few live oaks.
Turf works on both, as long as the base is built for what's there. Over clay, we remove more soil, bring in extra base rock, and compact it in layers so the lawn stays flat while the ground underneath moves. Over limestone, we work with the existing grade, fill the low spots, and pin the turf so it stays put on a hill.
We check your soil during the estimate and tell you exactly what the base will involve before you commit to anything.

Kyle Turf Pros installs artificial turf throughout Kyle, including Plum Creek, Hometown Kyle, Steeplechase, Waterleaf, Crosswinds, Anthem, and 6 Creeks. We also work in Buda, Wimberley, Mountain City, Niederwald, and Uhland.

Kyle Turf Pros is built around one idea: a turf lawn should look as good years from now as it does on day one. That takes careful base work, a product chosen for how the yard gets used, and a crew that leaves the property clean.
If you're outside the Kyle area, our affiliated turf teams serve homeowners in New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Schertz and Cibolo with the same installation standards.
Turf is priced per square foot. The final number depends on the size of the area, the turf style, and how much excavation and base the site needs. We measure in person and send a free written quote.
People use astro turf as a catch-all name, but the original was a short, stiff carpet made for stadiums. Landscape turf today has longer, softer blades in several shades of green with a tan thatch layer, so it reads as a real lawn.
Not to stay green. Most owners rinse it occasionally to clear dust or cool it down, and pet areas get hosed off more often. There's no irrigation schedule to follow.
With a sound base and UV-stabilized fibers, a turf lawn lasts for many years. Good drainage and occasional brushing do the most to keep it looking new.
It warms up in direct sun, the same way a deck or a driveway does. Heat-reducing turf and infill help, shade helps more, and a short rinse with the hose cools it right away.
Yes, when the base is built for it. We excavate deeper and compact a thicker layer of rock so the surface stays even as the clay expands and contracts.
Yes. It's a soft, even surface with no fertilizer, weed killer, or mud. For dogs, we recommend pet turf with fully permeable backing and odor-control infill.
A typical residential yard takes one to three days, based on its size and the prep involved. We give you the schedule with your quote.
Very little. Blow off leaves, rinse it when it's dusty, and brush the high-traffic areas a few times a year.
